What would civilization look like in 100, 250, 500 or 1000 years from now? No one can come even close to predicting what is going to happen to the global social, political and environmental landscape. Looking back in time gives us no clue as to what the future holds.
Five hundred years ago the world was a much bigger place. Nations and races coexisted, though not always in harmony with each other. It took months and years for news to travel and events to unfold.
Today, we have instant information exchange. News, information and ideas travel instantly. Money travels at the speed of light. Goods and services are exchanged among nations around the globe faster than ever before.
Of the many scenarios for the future of our planet, here are what I would consider to be the most likely outcomes.
The United States of America led by the Military Industrial Congressional Congress (MICC) is run by a very powerful elite that knows no boundaries. It sees energy security as utmost in maintaining its position as the global super power. Can it hope to continue with its policy of hegemony and containment in the presence of other nations, including Russia, China, India and the Arab world?
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World
War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein
History is filled with episodes of nation rising up against nation, atrocities against humanity, bigotry and genocide. Why would any nation or race be compelled to believe that they are the chosen one to inherit the earth or to have dominion over others? Or is this simply a Darwinian drive of survival of the fittest? Domination and slavery has been practiced in the past and continues today in covert ways. The goal of the ruling elite is to reap the rewards of the working class in the name of global economics. This would only lead to continuous cycles of uprising and revolt.
When people and nations come to realise that continuous economic growth is not sustainable, collapse of the current monetary system will follow. Cities and countries will be engulfed in civil unrests and uprising as people scramble for food. The MICC will attempt to maintain its hold on the populace in the name of national security. Money, laws and guns are means of social organization. Civil rights, law and justice are twisted and bent to benefit the ruling class, not the general population.
While all of the above can be prevented in shorter time spans, Global Warming is already past the tipping point. Nations around the global will have to come face to face with environmental destruction, devastation, crop loss, water shortage, and huge numbers of environmental refugees.
Sadly, all of the above could have been prevented if global civilization had moved rapidly into power-down mode through global conservation, sharing and cooperation.
